Thanksgiving Hacks That Will Save Your Day
This week is Thanksgiving. For our fans on the UK side of the pond, Thanksgiving is a day us Americans give thanks for the Native Americans welcoming us to the New World, teaching the Puritans how to farm the land and coming together for one big feast.

Nowadays, Thanksgiving is a traditional family holiday where family travels near and far to eat turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce... the whole 9. Thanksgiving dinner is the very definition of comfort food. Everyone usually eats and drinks a bit too much, sits down to watch some American football and visits with their family.

Hosting this holiday can be a bit daunting, as it takes much prep to make sure the meal comes together as it should, as well as social skills to make sure the family drama doesn’t all come out in one evening over too many glasses of wine!!

Here are some life-saving tips to get you through the day and even help you to enjoy yourself more!

Dont sWeat the small stuff

In the big scheme of things, no one is going to care if the potatoes went a bit chilly while waiting for you to put out the rest of the meal. They will be grateful (or they should!) to have such a wonderful, home-cooked meal in front of them to enjoy. If anyone gives you grief, shake it off, make a joke and then tell them they can host next year. Bet they will lay off you then!

UtiliZe all appliances

No one said your entire Thanksgiving needs to be cooked in your oven or on your stove. I’m recently in love with my new Instant Pot, which is a pressure cooker and a bit of a magic wonder. This appliance, as well as your slow cooker, can come in handy to cook your sides. You can easily keep mashed potatoes, stuffing, squash and so much more in either of those appliances. If you utilize both, that’s two sides you won’t need to plan for in the oven.

Butter... and lots of iT

Now, we all know that butter seems to make everything taste better. This is true for Thanksgiving as well. Not only do mashed potatoes or squash taste 10 times better with butter on it, but placing pads of butter underneath your turkey’s skin will get you moist and delicious turkey, as well as crispy and beautifully browned skin.

No politics

One of the biggest fights many families seem to have is surrounding politics. Make a rule for the night that no one will talk about hot-button topics, such as politics or religion, as well as anything you know would be a trigger for your family. By steering clear of these conversations, there would be less of a chance of arguments ensuing once that punch kicks in.

Enjoy!!

Most of all, take time to enjoy the day and your company. This day only comes around once a year... don’t get hung up on what went awry (there is always something!) but focus on who is around you and the warmth of the love you feel. Even if you ended up ordering a Chinese, at the end of the day, love is all that matters. Enjoy your day!!
What are some of your Thanksgiving planning hacks??
