Children are gorgeous creations. They are a true gift to this world but they are also exhausting! It is no secret that some of the most precious moments with a baby are when they are asleep, while you gaze adoringly at that wonderful human life you made. All is peaceful and quiet, you might be exhausted but suddenly it's so worthwhile! Yes, babies consume so much time and energy that it often feels that the only time to truly accomplish anything is when they sleep.
We all start off with the same high expectations, such as cleaning the house, doing the laundry, working away in the garden, etc. Yet, do we actually accomplish them? Let's get real and see what mums really do to relax when baby is finally asleep.
We all start off with the same high expectations, such as cleaning the house, doing the laundry, working away in the garden, etc. Yet, do we actually accomplish them? Let's get real and see what mums really do to relax when baby is finally asleep.
Sleep
When baby is asleep, you may just want to close your eyes, too. They say that you should try to sleep when your baby sleeps and of course, this is a great idea! Babies are unpredictable little creatures. So, if they decide to finally get some shut-eye, you should, too! You are not Super Woman. You need to replenish your energy just to keep up with the little one.
Television
Definitely not the most productive activity, but many real mums use that quiet time to just veg out on the sofa and catch up on some favourite television shows that do not include animated pigs or talking cars. Just as your body needs to physically relax, so does your mind and tuning out to some brainless television just might do the trick.
Social Media
Sometimes, you just need some human interaction with people that actually speak. Scrolling through your news-feed, chatting with a friend and browsing news stories help you to realise that the world is still turning and it is not actually consumed with just soiled nappies, baby bottles and crying. There is a light at the end of that tunnel.
Shower
Nothing is as sacred as a nice, hot shower with no interruptions. However, sometimes it is hard to find time to get a shower in with all that motherhood entails. So, once your little one goes down for a nap, turn that water up, hop in and wash away any of the day's strains. Showering not only awakens your body but also your soul. It can truly make you feel like a whole new woman.
Bottom line is, do not be so ambitious that your relaxing time turns into stress. Remember, do not bite off more than you can chew. Give yourself a break and make some time for you. Quiet moments are precious, as mums, we all know they do not last too long!
